Bryce A. Suderow: "Have you ever found the reports? "

Yes. I suspect they make up a large part of Samuel Curtis' official reports. For example, OR [I/XLI/I/477] quotes Jennison's report of the Battle of Little Blue, giving special praise to Hoyt and Major John M. Laing. This is interesting because Laing would be MIA the next day at the Battle of Westport. He got lost and marched with 5 companies of the Ks 15th to Olathe, KS, then Kansas City, KS, then back to the battlefield in Westport where he was placed in irons for cowardice and desertion. Curtis also includes Jennison's report on Westport (p. 488) and Hoyt's own report (p. 588) of the action at Second Newtonia. Here's a good place to start: http://books.google.com/books?id=RdYUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA588&dq=%22permit+me+to+extract+from+the+report+of+lieutenant-colonel+Hoyt%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=g5ruT7qMI8Pg6wHAlI3LBg&ved=0CDkQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22permit%20me%20to%20extract%20from%20the%20report%20of%20lieutenant-colonel%20Hoyt%22&f=false

Curtis' entire report is also included in "The Annals Of Iowa," (1870-71) at pp 50-196. That report contains numerous excerpts from Jennison's reports which were written by Hoyt. As Starr (Jennison's Jayhawkers) notes that Jennison was all but functionally im=lliterate, one is probably on solid ground assuming that Hoyt penned anything "by Jennison" that is legible, at least before Nov. 1964 when Jennison had Hoyt thrown in the Fort Scott brig during a particularly nasty if petty fight.
