Neil;

There is listed an 1833 pension application file for an Edmund Bartlett from VA. He also shows up as being aged 74 in 1835 living in Randolph Co Missouri of all places

"Alphabetical List of Pensioners Residing Outside of Virginia in 1835, whose Pensions were Granted for Services as Virginia Militiamen

This list was compiled from a report made by the Secretary of War in 1835. The ages are those given in that report, and are believed to be the ages of the pensioners in 1835. The names of the pensioners in what is now West Virginia are embraced under Part IV. "
"Bartlett, Edmund 74 Randolph Missouri"

This is confirmed by a listing of this gentleman in Missouri listing of "The Pension Roll of 1835, Vol. IV " page 123 wherein he is listed as private Virginia Militia. Date of application Oct 17, 1833. Age 74. This is the original source document I believe for the prior 2 entries. That makes a DOB about 1759 give or take.

He is found in 1794 Prices' KY Battalion (with likely brothers James and Anthony) in Co B. Payroll entry says" Appears as rank of Pvt on a payroll of a company of mounted volunteers called into the service by the President of the United States in 1794. Paid $15. Company commanded by one Capt. Anthony Bartlett. Entry found in U.S. Compiled Service Records, Post-Revolutionary War Volunteer Soldiers, 1784-1811. This unit is listed within the history of American Militia in the Frontier Wars, 1790-1796 as well so presumably he was indian fighting. This source also lists a Thomas Bartlett as company B Srgt.

Using this as a starting point then points to an entry in webland http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cst/bartlett/team7a.htm that gives an inkling to the family tree. This unprovenced tree lists his date of birth as Dec 23 1759 in Spotsylvania VA Death in Randolph Co MO in 1835 Marriage to a Sarah Barksdale 23 Apr 1789. Parents were CAPT. THOMAS BARTLETT, born 1733 St. George Parish, Spotsylvania Co. VA, died 1817 Henry Co. KY, married ca 1755 Spotsylvania Co. VA MARY FOSTER, born Spotsylvania Co. VA, died 1810-1816 Henry Co. KY, daughter of Anthony FOSTER and Martha (UNKNOWN) which fit the KY militia service quite well including info on Anthony and James Bartlett.

Hope this helps, may not even be your guy.

John R.
