U S Grant in Mexico, Missouri

Hello all. I've been peripherally involved in some posts, particularly of my friend Craig Asbury. Craig seems to have cracked the question of who from the Centralia battle was buried in the Old Village Cemetery in Mexico. The question also arose about the location of Grant's headquarters in that town in 1861. I have some information to toss out there. Please critique.

The 1913 book "History of Northeast Missouri", edited by Walter Williams, describes the site of Grant's headquarters tent at page 212, accessible below:

I cannot tell if Williams wrote this particular passage. He purports to base his story on the word of multiple citizens of Mexico, still living in 1913.

The location described in the book is near the corner of Monroe and Missouri Streets, where what appears to be a gas station & convenience store is under construction.
