director's cut of "Ride With The Devil" DVD..!!!!!

HAPPY LUGHNASA (Aug. 1) POSTING....!!!!!!!

Hi all (long time, no post.....my apologies for Obligations Academic!)

I bought the director's cut of "Ride With The Devil" (Criterion DVD) recently and was gratified to discover my hypothesis re just how Taiwan-born director Ang Lee was able to make such a sensitive/great film about the Missouri guerrilla war was pretty much accurate.

In his commentary he actually sez that he identified with the civil war guerrillas in Missouri because his own family went through the civil war in China (communist vs. nationalists).....wow!!!!!

The other great feature of this version of RWTD is the complete, uncut rendition of Quantrill's raid of Lawrence - a LOT of the vignettes are shown that I have read in Leslie, Goodrich, et al.....GRAPHIC!!!!

If you don't already have a copy of the Criterion DVD/director's cut of RWTD you definitely need to get one!!!!!!
