Maj. J. W. Methvin, MSG (?)

In reviewing work on the 14th MSM Cavalry time line in 1862 I examined closely a report by Major J. C. Wilber, 14th MSM, who led an expedition from Ozark around Oct 12, 1862, with the intention of going to Yellville, Ark. When they reached the White river they could not cross and proceed down the river to Talbot's Ferry where they encountered a number of patrols near Mountain Home Arkansas. Discovering that James McBrides Bde (McBride had died before this event from Pneumonia) was enroute to interecept, Wilber returned to Ozark, taking with him some prisoners he captured. Among them was allegedly one Major J. W. Methvin, of McBrides Bde. In checking the MSG books, by McGhee et Al. I do not find Major Methvin listed anywhere. This report can be found in OR Vol. XIII, pg. 318. I checked the soldiers and sailors site and didn't find him there either, which doesn't mean he isn't there. So the question arises, who was this man?
