Thanks to John and the others for their detailed information. I have driven through the vicinity of where Camp Herron possibly could have been. One particular location is on low ground bordered by the Meramec River. My ancestor Joshua Brake enlisted September 21 1861 at Union, Missouri. He died before he could be mustered in the 26th Regiment Inf. Vols. Co. I. Joshua died December 20, 1861 of disease at Pacific, Missouri. I also found a website listing the men of the 26th Regiment and their cause of death. Many died in the camp at Pacific, Missouri or soon after due to the unsanitary conditions. Thanks again to all who share. Ron
