That detail about Puckett's arrest and prison stay is just what I wanted. Based on my study, Federal authorities released just about every POW from the jails and prisons in Missouri during April, May, and June 1865 except some trouble cases--that is, people that gave the Feds trouble. If there was somebody they didn't release until July, they were making a point. I would guess they were blaming Chapman and Puckett for all the trouble in Morgan County during summer 1864, but we don't know how much of it was their doing.
