The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Sarah Elizabeth Cooley; CSA???

I have learned more details about the life of Sarah Elizabeth Cooley and her first husband, John Phillips killed either during or shortly after the Civil War in Randolph County, Mo. by bushwhackers, according to the family story. Her first husband was not Knight. It was Phillips. I have found John Phillips, age 21 in the 1860 Chariton County, Mo census living with the family of James Price. Is this family any relation to General Price, who Sarah Elizabeth is supposed to have served under during the Civil War? It seems to me this puts the story of Sarah Elizabeth Cooley Phillips even closer to the Price family. This reply is in reference to my messages in 2007. I have this information from a direct descendant of John Phillips and Sarah Elizabeth Cooley. I descend from Sarah's second husband, George W. Heifner. If her name is listed as a Cpt. under General Price in 1863, it may be under the name Phillips. I have been unable to find a marriage license but it is possible they were married prior to 1863.
