Bruce, here is still some more "potential evidence". In the Provost Marshal's records:
*************************
Fowler, James; Hagen, Kennard;

Crabtree, [unknown]; Clark, Henry; Clark, W. F.; Clark, James F.; Clark, John; Clark, Benjamin; Connard, George; Farmer, William; Ridges, James; Revis, James; Purvis, George; Russell, William; Bell, Benjamin; etal Cole Letter from Hagen listing individuals involved in taking himself and Fowler prisoner. A horse and Negro were taken from the prisoners. Captors threatened to kill prisoners or make them meet with Claiborne Jackson and join Gen. Price's army.
*************************
Of the above mentioned names with Crabtree (note first name "unknown"), the following were members of the same Missouri State Guard unit that L.P. Crabtree was a part of: Benjamin Clark (shown as B.F. Clark on muster roll) , George Purvis(sp also shown as G.W. Pervis on muster roll), James Revis, William Russell (shown as W.B. Russell on muster roll)

Once again, this is simply speculation, but there is pretty strong circumstantial evidence that all of these men showing up on one muster roll (this group was known as the Clark Township Southern Guards by the way), including a fellow named L.P. Crabtree kind of makes me think that all these men were from the same part of southern Cole County and/or perhaps northern Miller County. Interesting for sure!
