The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Pacific City, MO (AKA Syracuse)

Anita,
You are very welcome.

Just a thought, but the researcher and author Neil Block, who monitors this forum, has done much to identify Confederate graves especially of southerners from Randolph and Howard Counties north of the Missouri River. Since some of the Civil War dead buried in Syracuse were recruits and recruiting cadre from that area, perhaps Neil may be of some assistance to you. Further, the Sons of Confederate Veterans chapter that meets in Jefferson City is very active, and may also show interest in your particular project as a way of honoring southern war dead.

I have a tender regard for Syracuse going back a few years. I always slowed to the speed limit along US Hwy 50 going through town so I could enjoy the variety of 1940s and 1950s automobiles parked just a few yards off the edge of the roadway. I gave up antique cars years ago for a variety of reasons, but I will not forget my enjoyment seeing past glories close at hand as I motored slowly through town. I don't think those particular memories will enhance what you seek, unless old Route 66 went through Syracuse.
