Re: Old Military Road
In Response To: Old Military Road ()

Ihave done more research-went to Trail of Tears Park and got receipts that George Bollinger took supplies to a government camp 20 miles southwest of Jackson mo in 1837. A band of Cherokee and the us government built a road from Jackson mo to Greenville mo. Some farmers in the area stated they crossed there farms. What year was it some say that john Benje took this road in 1838 which is called the military rd. Most historians says john Benje turned west south of cape went on around Allenville, which is the only way around the swamps down cape-Bloomfield road. More research shows they keep going west at that point on by Zalma mo. In 1838 the name of Zalma was Bollinger mill which had a large mill where the John Benje detachment of 1200 Cherokee 60 wagons and ox and horses can get supplies. Then went on to Lowndes mo where the government built the rd that went through Lowndes onto Greenville mo. Which they called it the military rd and joined the southwest trail at Greenville which is also called the military rd in later years. Still doing research and always coming across new things--thanks---
