The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Where's Waldo

I know this sounds silly, but hopefully someone out there can answer my question.

There was a war correspondent (for the St. Louis Missouri Democrat, at least) who covered much of Price's raid into Missouri in 1864. He was present at Pilot Knob and followed the campaign across Missouri. His posts are informative, interesting, and occasionally even somewhat humorous. He wrote under the pen-name "Waldo" but I know nothing else of him. Dr. Seymour Carpenter, years later, remembered him as "Walt" which could have been his name or perhaps Dr. Carpenter just remembered the pen name.

Does anyone know who he was or anything else about him?
