Thanks! So, I guess Shanks, like Gen Marmaduke never married.
When I read your "Confederate Colonels" several years ago I had my doubts-- due to another author's account that had him as a married farmer in Platte County. Your update of his story here is a better fit for a lad whose life was a great adventure.
