Hello John, I'm back on the trail again. On previous thread you say: "Nelson Smarr of Ralls Co MO was captured same date/place and held St Joe with Edward T Smarr.....Appears that Nelson Smarr shows up as Nelson Swall in NPS S&S record as member Jenkins 3rd MO Cav. That unit was clearly in NW MO in Sept 64 when these 2 were captured."

It makes total sense to me that cousins Edward Thomas and Nelson Smarr could have been in Jenkins unit. However Price's army didn't enter MO until Sept 19 and don't get to Blue River until Oct 21. Do we assume that perhaps Edward & Nelson were either:

1) already in NW MO where Edward lived in Lafayette Co and not in AR on Sept 10, or
2) being cavalry they were in sent to scout in advance of Price's move into MO?

As usual, thanks for any advice you can give,

Dave Smarr
