Re: Missouri State Guard Company?

The difficulty is that some were apparently with this MSG regiment, I remember at least one (I think I recall another) of these individuals' cards saying they were at Wilsons Creek, and the one that sticks in my head was wounded there...should have written it down but I was just doing a survey. I agree though that some, perhaps most were not at that engagement and probably joined later, perhaps around/after the time Fremont retook Springfield. But what unit were they with then? MSG or CSA? (Another MSG unit, then CSA later?) If MSG was it a reorganized 2nd Inf/7th Div MSG after what appear to have been heavy losses at Wilsons Creek, esp. of officers? I get confused in the MSG vs CSA happenings shortly before Pea Ridge and up until Corinth (after the latter several of them were reported as deserting around the same time, I assume from the 4th MO CSA.) The gap between mid Sept 1861 and mid Feb 1862 is a challenge to fill. Some sort of 7th Div MSG is the most likely explanation.

I'll bet that Jim McGhee comes up with a good explanation as he is fluent in the various sources and the complex organizations. Inspection suggests some of the individuals might have been involved in three different MSG/CSA companies and/or regiments in the 1861-1862 period.
