My grandfather was in McGehee's Cavalry Regiment at Westport (Lt. William White, Co.H) I came across this website by chance. I did some research on my grandfather using his release from Johnson's Island Prison, and some other materials I obtained from Nat'l Archives, letter from my grandfather, etc. I have read the book on Action Before Westport, and used the wikipedia, etc. When I saw your name I wondered if you were related to Colonel McGehee? I have visited Arkansas, where my grandfather and father lived in Judsonia, also visited Johnson's Island prison in Ohio. I never have visited Missouri to see Westport site where the charge took place(I live in NY City). When I visited Johnson Island they had no idea that Arkansas prison at Westport were there. I have my grandfather's release papers at the end of the war. I am 84 and thought about visiting Westport site on Oct. 23, but I have some medical issues that prohibit it. Would sincerely appreciate hearing from you
