Please ignore if you know this, but Adolph Loethen and Herman Scheuler/Scheulen of the stolen wedding clothes were step-brothers. Adolph was also his sponsor. Adolph's father died at sea on the way here and his mother remarried in Westphalia in 1837. Herman's father died in 1842. They ran a small ferry on the Osage seven miles east of Henley starting in 1853. Adolph's son took it over in the 1890's. Herman is buried in St. Thomas - which is where I was Thursday night watching a ball game. I thought his marriage date might provide some guidance on Crabtree's death, but his first wife was dead before the war and he didn't remarry until after it was over.
