Pinkney L Powers was my great great great grandfather. He died due to a gunshot to the shoulder during the battle of Pilot Knob according to my family's history. I have no reason to believe otherwise.

. I will say that my family's participation in the civil war has always been handed down as Yankee blue due to our Germanic roots and belief in individual right to freedom. This was particularly dangerous in a divided state like Missouri. But our Protestant teachings and historical religious persecution from Germany to England which led us to this country where we spread from North Carolina through tennessee to Misouri, where we were confronted again with the decision to either stand fast in our resolve as people of faith or comply with the tyranny of man our forefathers chose to stand and answer this tyranny with a resounding answer that we would submit life rather than submit will. PL Powers said no and sacrificed himself in this fight.

Again, I only have my handed down history to call on as evidence. While it could be incorrect I find no reason to believe so. Our family settled in Marquand Mo and established a family farm which was handed down through the generations until my uncle passed a few years ago and my great Aunt who is my family's historian finally sold the last stake in that land a few years ago.

It is humbling and appreciated that someone saw fit to document a long deceased relatives actions and for that I am greatfull. I only wish to set the record as our family sees it straight and hope that we learn more about actual circumstances. Thank you.
