Nope, it was Centreville
In Response To: Re: Centreville ()

I say potato, you say spud. When talking historically, the proper reference is to the historical name. The name was what it was. Nope…it was Centreville that fell to the Confederates in December 1863, not Centerville. Both occupied the same geographic spot, but Centreville was the spelling of the seat of Reynolds County in 1863. A change regarding what specific letters are used in the spelling of a name decades later on doesn't change history. I guess it would be like me saying Saigon was taken over by the communists in 1973, and you clarifying that it was Ho Chi Minh City that fell to the communists in 1973. Or I say Carthage fell to the Romans in 146 BC, and someone clarifying that it was Tunis that fell to the Romans. Or nope, that wasn't New Amsterdam the English took over in 1664, that was New York City. Or someone saying that in 1942 the Germans besieged Volgograd, not Stalingrad; or that the Germans besieged Saint Petersburg that same year, not Leningrad. Their names were their names.
