Border War and MU-KU Rivalry

Some time back on this board, I started a bit of an exchange on this board regarding an analysis by KU history professor in Bleeding Kansas, Bleeding Missouri: The Long Civil War on the Border. I was taken aback by the position taken in this analysis that the notion of the MU-KU athletic rivalry being rooted in the Border War is a relatively recently invented myth, without basis in fact. With the rivalry games having been suspended (and possibly permanently ended) due to Missouri switching conference affiliation, it seemed to me that it would be unfortunate to have what could potentially be the last word on the rivalry’s history be an analysis so fundamentally flawed. Therefore, I undertook an effort to correct the record, with the result being an article that appears in the October 2015 issue of the Missouri Historical Review:

While this could be viewed as a shameless bit of self promotion, I thought there were a few "new" historical tidbits in the article that might be of interest to some of the readers here. For example, I had not previously seen any reference to the controversial remarks of Charles Robinson on the Quantrill Raid, made in Lawrence during an anniversary commemoration.
