Just found another fort reference. In Iberia (during the war it was called Rocktown - and, no, I don't want to get into the potato -spud debate, as amusing as it has become), according to the book, "They Left a Legacy; Historical Stories of Miller County" by Peggy Smith Hake, a Union fort was built in Iberia and was under the command of Captain William Long. The fort stood where the old site of Farnham and Sons Lumber Co. stood in the 1940s and 50s.
If anyone has any more information about this fort or photos, please let me know - let us ALL know! At Tuscumbia, a cannon was mounted on a platform in front of the Courthouse, supposedly pointed down the road that led to the courthouse. Though I know it doesn't quite fit into the thread, it is interesting.
