Moniteau/Miller/Morgan Co Junction

I recently discovered a family branch that bought 40 acre pieces in the 1840s and 1850s in the general area of Moniteau/Miller/Morgan Counties. That is, south of High Point, North of Eldon, and East of Versailles. Of all the possible relatives, I confirmed one in a Union regiment--he had a pension. Most moved away post war and are lost to the diaspora--names were common. Based on the Mo-SOS index, there are many possible rebel soldiers in the family. I was wondering what it would be like for the surviving Union Solider in this part of Missouri after the War. So I read the histories of the counties to try to get a sense of this area where the three counties touch. I can't get a sense from the circumspect language of the 1880s and 1920s. Does anyone have a sense of the ratio of Union/Rebel soldiers in this area? I am also wondering how things were post war. Anyone have a sense of this? Or a reference? TIA
