Confederate Grave in Rolla

I have learned of a Confederate grave containing several unknown Confederate soldiers in Rolla on the south part of town. The grave contains a single stone erected by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. I have not been able to locate any information on how the Confederates came to be buried there. I see that there was a skirmish in Rolla on August 1, 1864 involving the 5th Mo. Cavalry (Union) and unknown Confederates and cannot locate any further information on this incident. I have also came across two reports of Confederate soldiers who possibly died in a "prison camp" in Rolla but I have not been able to confirm the reports with roster cards.

The prison explanation makes sense to me; Rolla is a logical place to haul prisoners to be processed and shipped by rail to St. Louis. However, I have not stumbled across any documentation as of yet.

Would anyone know why there is a burial of several unknown Confederates in Rolla?
