I am not aware of any books specifically devoted to the battle (just parts of larger works). I think most people consider Paul Rorvig's MHR article the best single source.

Also, I don't own a copy of Thoma's "This Cruel Unnatural War: The American Civil War in Cooper County Missouri" but the sneak-peek on Amazon seems to show that there is quite a bit of stuff in there on the first battle.
