Re: Captains Barenes and Orchard

Bryce,

Oops! In daylight today I realized I omitted Captain William Orchard from the Orchard clan in Dent County last night. This is doubly embarrassing since I missed this Captain Orchard from my own "Guerrilla Warfare in Civil War Missouri, Volume II, 1863" on pages 244-5. Confederate Thomas Roe Freeman attempted without success on 13 September 1863 with 300 men of his regiment to capture the Dent County seat of Salem. One of his officers in this endeavor was Captain William Orchard of Salem. Colonel Freeman with great difficulty managed to extricate his force from a spirited pursuit by two companies of Union troops from the Salem garrison. William Orchard was among the survivors. Please excuse my accidental omission.
