INTRODUCTION
The records of a funeral home in St. Louis, Missouri. The records include name of
deceased, place of residence, place of burial, and other funeral details. The later records
also include cause of death and age at time of death. Please note that not all records for
each individual are complete.
DONOR INFORMATION
The records were donated to the State Historical Society of Missouri by J. Gilbert
Lay on 13 September 1972 (Accession No. 0975).
ORGANIZATIONAL SKETCH
Henry Hoover Wagoner arrived in St. Louis in May of 1866 and entered the
undertaking business with John A. Smithers. In 1900, his son joined him and the business
became Wagoner Undertaking Company. Smithers and Wagoner operated on Olive St. in
St. Louis, Missouri.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The records are arranged in chronological order. In cases where a stillbirth
occurred, the family name is indexed since in most cases, the child was unnamed
