County, Missouri August 3, 1863, received at Gratiot St. Military Prison, St. Louis, Mo., September 1, escaped by jumping from a window upon a pile of sand, sometime during Thursday night, October 9, 1863, 23 year old resident of Henry Co., Mo., 6’, blue eyes, black hair, last recorded absent with leave at the Jan/Feb 1864 muster,** no further records

* This regiment appears to have been variously known in the field as 1st Regiment Missouri Cavalry, Gordon’s Regiment Missouri Cavalry, and Shelby’s Regiment Missouri Cavalry; but it was designated by the Confederate War Department as the 5th Regiment Missouri Cavalry

** There are no further Company F muster rolls in the records, hence, we cannot ascertain his further service
