Marmaduke's order of battle during his SW MO expedition of January 1863 was subdivided between three subordinate commanders:

1. Joseph O. Shelby,
2. Joseph C. Porter (mortally wounded in fighting around Hartville), and
3. Emmett MacDonald (killed in the fighting around Springfield).
