Queries on Wright letter Nov. 1861

This letter was interesting to me - hoping others have comments about its contents. The rebels were encamped in Capt. Switzler's yard with his family still there - only a few weeks after Monday's Hollow?
I have some family documents relating to the Union troops retreating from Springfield to Rolla - took every animal and the rails from the fences on the farm.
Wright expects to lose every farthing he owns - and in just a few weeks is escorting men from Monday's Hollow/Linn Creek to St. Louis. If you've read his December letter about this event, the two letters combine to tell a story.
Recommended reading on Capt. Switzler and/or Major Wright? I know bits and pieces but am interested in reading a more complete source.
Thanks.
