On the 155th anniversary of the Curtman's Island Massacre tomorrow, a Miller County Hist Soc Facebook post will say that Crabtree died in 1862 and Wiley Shumate and his men were responsible for the executions in 1864. Although Bruce Nichols published this information both here and in his 2004 book, I was slow to believe that Goodspeed, and all those local stories, got it wrong for so many years. Just wanted to publicly thank Bruce for his patience with nonbelievers and his persistence to publish the true story.
