He appears on a roll of prisoners sent to St. Louis dated Dec 24, 1862. He is 20, blue eyes, light hair, 5'9" from Johnson Co. MO.
He is further listed as CSA recruit, Thompson's Regt. The arresting officer was Lt. Col. JK Mills, Provost Marshall of SW MO. He is listed as captured in Webster Co. Oct 30, 1862. He was released from Gratiot Street prison on March 4, 1863 with a cryptic note of "Washington" attached. On this last entry he is listed as being in Company B, Thompson's Regt.

Prior to capture he has a payroll record for Capt. Goram's (sp?), McCulloghs Regt (mounted) Mo 5th for 233.80 dated Jan to March 1862. On his initial holding recorded from Marshfield MO he is indicated as being in Capt. Todds company, dated Nov 1862. On his voluntary statement in Jan 1862, he states he was recruited and enlisted in Saline Co. by Thompson and was assigned to Searcy's Sharpshooters, participated in battles at Lexington, Booneville, Pea Ridge, Dogwood Cr. He apparently went to Arkansas and was discharged for illness and then re-enlisted thus perhaps some of the confusion. His second enlistment was by Col Dawson and he claims to be in Capt Jackson's Company all occuring in August 1862. He stated he was picked up heading south.

So we know he enlisted early in the conflict probably as mounted infantry and served in the MSG, went to Arkansas fought as a gunner at Pea Ridge, got sick, likely went home. Re-enlisted in August and was caught moving south in Webster Co, perhaps with Bill Todd as a guide. Went to Marshfield as prisoner then on to St Louis, posted bond of $1713, signed an oath and appears to have gone home to sit out the rest of the war.

Note the nativity difference, Ikenbrote is listed as being from Germany, then in 1860 in Missouri he self lists Germany as where he was born though the 1850 census has him born in Ohio.
