Re: James Henry Scott, Caldwell co., Mo

George and Neil; I think you may be chasing the wrong person. James Henry Scott as described by George is found in Caldwell County and served in Union units from Ohio as listed, wife was Rachel and he is buried in Caldwell county.

I was a bit uncomfortable that this fellow would be in a UCV chapter in Maryville, Nodaway Co. MO which is a good 100 miles from Caldwell County.

Scoping the Nodaway census lists I turn up a JOSEPH Henry Scott born 1833 in Virginia that enlisted in Co I, 42nd Regt VA Infantry in Lynchburg VA, 1861.

He is found in the 1880 census.

Name: Joseph H. Scott
Age: 47
Birth Date: Abt 1833
Birthplace: Virginia
Home in 1880: Union, Nodaway, Missouri, USA
Dwelling Number: 33
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relation to Head of House: Self (Head)
Marital status: Married
Spouse's name: Mary L. Scott
Father's Birthplace: Virginia
Mother's Birthplace: Virginia
Occupation: Farmer
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
Joseph H. Scott 47
Mary L. Scott 45
John B. Scott 22
Edward J. Scott 17
Rosa H. Scott 15
Pat Scott 10
Franklin R. Scott 7
Charles Scott 3

I humbly submit this is a more likely candidate for UCV membership in Maryville Mo. I've confusion over abbreviation Jas. vs Jos. in handwritten lists before.
