Kirby, you may know this much already, but according to the Louisville Weekly Journal of Oct. 14, 1864, Bloom was executed in Hannibal Thursday of the previous week (which would have been Oct 6) and was captured the day previous to that (Oct 5) in Lagrange ( I assume the town in Lewis County, north of Hannibal). He went by the name of Smith, and his wife, whom he had married in Little Rock, AR, some years earlier, knew him by this name. The wife was living in Clinton Co., Iowa. That's about all the article says, except that Bloom/Smith was repentant.
