In my hunting for the "cousin" connection of Joseph D Todd and Capt Thomas W Todd I cannot determine who Joseph D Todds father is. If you note Joseph D and his brother James Todd are listed as laborers on the 1860 census listing of Neriah Todd thus living with their cousin Tom W Todd. This would indicate at first blush that Neriah had taken in 2 of his brothers kids for what ever reason.

Name: Joseph D Todd
Age: 16
Birth Year: abt 1844
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Missouri
Home in 1860: Richmond, Howard, Missouri
Post Office: Fayette
Dwelling Number: 115
Family Number: 112
Occupation: Laborer
Personal Estate Value: 100
Attended School: Yes
Household Members:
Name Age
Neriah Todd 55
Minerva Todd 27
William H Todd 27
Thomas Todd 23
Eugene Todd 21
James Todd 20
Neriah Todd 15
Bettie Todd 14
Chenault Todd 12
Joseph D Todd 16
Thomas Todd 12

Backing up to 1850 shows that Joseph D and Thomas Todd were in the household of Charles Helms in Boone County
Name: Joseph D Todd
Gender: Male
Age: 7
Birth Year: abt 1843
Birthplace: Missouri
Home in 1850: District 8, Boone, Missouri, USA
Attended School: Y
Line Number: 18
Dwelling Number: 623
Family Number: 623
Household Members:
Name Age
Charles Helms 60
Jamima Helms 50
Sarah J Helms 18
Elijah Helms 22
Artomacy Helms 15
Elizabeth Helms 12
Meridith Helms 7
Joseph B(D) Todd 7
William (S or C) Todd 5
Thomas A Todd 2

Again 3 boys at a young age not with family, but where did William go in 1860?
He appears in the household of James Hocker, in 1860
Name: Wm Todd
Age: 14
Birth Year: abt 1846
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Missouri
Home in 1860: Bonne Femme, Howard, Missouri
Post Office: Mires
Dwelling Number: 637
Family Number: 623
Attended School: Yes
Household Members:
Name Age
James Hocker 63
Nancy C Hocker 53
James Hocker 21
Sarah Hocker 30
George Hocker 12
Margaret Hocker 13
Wm Todd 14

Who then is James Hocker? None other than the brother of Neriah Todd's wife Minerva Hocker Todd. His first wife no less was Mary Todd, Neriah's sister. His second wife was Nancy Falls.

Thus I believe William Chenault Todd was Joseph D Todd's brother as well as Thomas A Todd. In the listing of Co E Perkins Battalion is a William Todd along with Joseph, James, TW, NP.

Thus I firmly believe WC Todds rebuttal to the 1882 Boone County History version of events at Centrailia, published by JC Todd in 1915. I have no reason to believe his descriptions of Goslin's Lane and Fayette are not based on a first hand eye witness account of the Confederate movements and actions. All evidence I can gain indicate he WAS part of TW Todd's extensive family involvement in Co E Perkins Battalion, i.e. cousin to Capt. TW Todd.

Hope this helps. I do have a transcript of the pamphlet if needed.
