Adams, Dickson, Purcell connections.

Josiah Dickson, Scottish immigrant, Rev War Vet, Shawnee captive/slave. Daniel Boone cohort. Patriarch of Dickson's (Dixon) in north and central Missouri. Father of Margaret Dickson Adams, Grandfather to Mary Belle Dickson Purcell (wife of YA Purcell)

Location: T-49-N; R-16-W' Section 33. about 4-5 miles east of Boonville, near the Banks of the Missouri River, within the large Bell's Fruit Farms. This was originally the farm home of David and Margaret "peggy" (Dickson) Adams, who emigrated from Mercer Co., Kentucky in 1819.
It also happened to be the site of the two battles fought here during the Civil War. The home here was a large 2 1/2 story brick house built of homemade bricks. It was badly damaged in those two battles, but the family continued to repair the damages as best they could, and lived on here until about 1902-03; David and Peggy had established a small, private burial plot near their home, as was the custom in early days. There they were laid to rest - also her parents, Josiah Dickson and wife and possibly others.

There are no complete records of the burials there nor dates. When William Dickson Adams and his wife died, in 1902 and 1902, they were buried in the small family plot - but in a few years, possibly 1904, when the farm was sold, all of these bodies and markers were moved to Walnut Grove Cemetery, Boonville, MO.

The following list of burials there, was supplied by Mr. William (Adams) Harriman:
1. Adams: David. b. March 25, 1780 in Mercer Co., Kentucky d. Aug. 3, 1863 near Boonville, MO; son of Samuel Adams and - -?; married Margaret "Peggy" Dickson (Dixon) on Dec. 15, 1807 in Kentucky.
2. Adams: Margaret (Peggy) neé Dickson (Dixon). b. April 4, 1788 in Mercer Co., Kentucky; daughter Josiah and Isabelle (Reid) Dickson; wife of David Adams; married Dec 15, 1807 in Kentucky.
3. Adams: William Dickson (Dixon). b. Aug. 7, 1818 in Cooper Co., MO, near Boonville; d. Aug. 3, 1903 at Boonville, MO; son of David and Margaret (Dickson) Adams; married Mary Pendleton Tompkins.
4. Adams: Mary Pendleton neé Tompkins. b. -; d. Dec. 18, 1902 near Boonville, MO; wife of William (Dickson) Adams.
5. Dickson or Dixon: Josiah. b. -; d. 1825 at Adams Farm; husband of Isabelle Reid of Kentucky.
6. Dickson or Dixon: Isabelle neé Reid. b. -; d. 1831.
7. Possibly 7th burial; a child of David and Margaret (Dickson) Adams drowned in the Missouri River.
The above seems to be six of the seven bodies removed from the Adam's Farm Burial Plot and re-interred at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Boonville. No record of the seventh grave.
