Yeah—this evening I’ve dug up multiple matching obscure accounts that pinpoint my event as being the oct. 16 skirmish at Auxvasse creek.

10th MSM cavalry under major Richard g Woodson (Atty gen Edward bates relative) vs disintegrating remnants of 1st NE Cav companies L, M, N, and Blackfoot Rangers. They were all already crippled; with this fight they dispersed and never recovered. Some troops made it to nearby Portland and made the crossing across the river that same day. “Affair at Portland.” Most of the rebs just went home and were rounded up and arrested over the course of the next six weeks.
