I was on the right track, I just had the wrong incarnation of a McKinney unit. And notice how I presented my theory about McKinney's Blackfoot Rangers being tied to Purcell's company? And right after that there comes along Andrew Stice minutes later, reaching out from 1862 and confirming it by saying he enlisted under McKinney in July 1862, which is the Blackfoot Rangers, and then goes on to say he served under Purcell in Porter's regiment. (Well, actually he said it 160 or so years ago, but his words just made it to this board). Theories are theories, and come and go in this type of research, but it's nice when they prove out as fact.
