Nov 1 1863
COLUMBIA -- Stewart Hatton, “the one-eyed general” who was one of the most notorious secessionists in Boone County, was captured near his home by a squadron of soldiers under a Lt. Wood, the Missouri Statesman reported.

Hatton was found hiding in a hayloft, the newspaper reported.

Hatton was at the 1861 Battle of Overton Run in Callaway County and participated in the raid on the farm of U.S. Rep. James Rollins later that year. After an earlier arrest, Rollins had urged that Hatton be shot.

After a second arrest, he escaped while being held at Sturgeon on his way to prison in St. Louis.
