Charles Samuel Mitchell, a young 23 y/o Colonel 8th MO Infantry, elect to rank Aug 8 1862 as Mitchell's (7th Regt MO Inf Drayton's Brigade) PACS. This unit belonged to Price's 1st Division. Previous rank Lt. Col. Elected Aug 6th 1862. He was appointed Col 8th MO Infantry June 26, 1863 part of Hindman's army und general Clark. SO order 27, Little Rock Hdq. Trans-Mississippi Dept. Consolidated th 7th with Frazier's to form Mitchell's Regiment also known as the 5th MO Inf Regt later designated the 8th Regt. MO Infantry.

He requested and received a medical Leave of Absence for recurrent fevers (likely malaria) and dysentery January 1864 while stationed at Shreveport LA. He obvioulsy returned to duty as there is a surrender oath dated 7 June 1865 Shreveport La. He listed his residence as Columbus, Arkansas.

Born in Va in 1840, died Tx 1910, Married Julia Sevier Rector in Arkansas 1865. They moved to the Dallas TX area and is considered an influential early member of that community.
