Following up on your lead in fold3 John, I found an interesting similarity in two of the three men that were captured by the Confederates after overrunning Battery C on the 4th of July.
They were both convicted of being "drunk and disorderly", fined $5 and sentenced to ten days hard labor at Battery C in the months before the battle. One had also
deserted from Dec. 1862-March 1863 but was allowed to rejoin Company H after the President`s Proclamation on March 10, 1863(?) Hmmmm
