The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: The interest is all but gone

For what its worth, I agree wholeheartedly with the opinion that interest in this subject is dwindling.

I periodically "lurk" on all the CWMB states that have activity.
Whether you realize it or not Missouri is by far the most active of all, and by a considerable margin.

Ark, La, Tenn, Texas and Mississippi formerly had active posters, but now are close to "withering on the vine." Alabama is smothered by spammers almost totally to the point of "whats the point."
Navy and Artillery, of interest to me and once somewhat active have gone many months without a post and maybe a year or two without a decent thread.

Again, compliments to Missouri.

My opinion is that because of the "war" on Confederate history and everything Confederate, which also makes any study of the ACW, even the Union side, potentially suspect, younger people shy away from, or completely avoid this subject which you and I love and find so fascinating.

How to change things, I don't know.
Eventually there will be a backlash, but how and when, I don't know.
I fear that it won't happen in my lifetime.

If all or most of us don't live to see that turnaround, who will be the leaders of the Confederate or ACW "renaissance?"

I hope for better times.
Thank you for listening.
