"John Lowery Crockett was indeed the grand-nephew of famed Davy Crockett. Paterson James Crockett was Davy's older brother (b.1784) - he married Nancy Gray and their son Robert Gray Crockett (b.1815) married Mary 'Polly' Vickers. Relevant to this story were their children Nancy Jeanette Crockett (b. 1837) and John Lowery Crockett (b.1839). Nancy married Isaac Marion Willingham (c.1835-1887) who was involved in some sort of business partnership with his brother-in-law John Lowery Crockett - they may have been joint owners of a threshing machine. They had a dispute - seemingly John felt Isaac wasn't pulling his weight - which erupted into violence, with Isaac attempting to kill his brother-in-law. The Beach boys sided with Isaac in this affair. Oliver Gillentine 'Tine' Beach was shot in the heart and killed by John Lowery Crockett on 2 Aug 1885 - arguably in self-defense. Roughly a year later Martin Luther 'Lute' Beach married Dora Willingham (daughter of Nancy Jeanette Crockett and Isaac), while his brother McCager Terry 'Cage' Beach married John Lowery Crockett's daughter Etta.

John Lowery Crockett's life ended tragically having taken a drove of horses to Little Rock, Arkansas. Having concluded business, he was gathering supplies for the return journey when he accidentally fired a loaded 45 caliber pistol in his face when climbing into his wagon. This was witnessed, according to the Daily Arkansas Gazette 25 Oct 1895, by 'fully a hundred people.'"
