Could be William Hocker Long was operating the William Hocker farm in addition to his own. That might be one to look at. If the 1876 William Hocker farm was part of 1864 William Hocker Long's holdings, then it is directly east of the adjoining W.F. Turner farm. And...the W.F. Turner residence is off the road around a third of a mile, which kind of meshes with the skirmish accounts. In addition, that 1876 plat of the W.F. Turner farm also seems to indicate an orchard right next to the house, which also meshes.

And in looking at that 1876 plat, look who else is east of the W.F. Turner farm, and directly adjoins it, as well as directly adjoins the William Hocker farm -- O.R. White.
