Found this intersting tidbit among many others in my Misc. Files via Missouri State Archives RG 133 Misc. Correspondence. I acquired this over 20 years ago and didn't use it at the time. It reads:

St. Louis Arsenal, Mo. September 25, 1862
To His Excellency H. R. Gamble, Governor of the State of Missouri, Saint Louis
Sir: I have the honor to report that the Garibaldi Rifles 2,700, with the exception of 20 sent to me by the direction of the Secretary of War for issue to the Militia of Missouri have been received and I hold them subject to your orders. Very Respectfully
