Francis M. Gordon diary

Several references to Hickman's Mill where Gordon was at.

On pg 39 when he says "Tueday 26th went to hickman mills with dispatch instructions. Gallop with [MS illegible] put up with Mr. Collins."

Pg 36 is "Sunday 17th went to Hickmans Mills with capt Cass [Lieut. Charles L. Cass?] in the afternoon put up at Mr Collins."

On pg 59: "June 1864 Friday 10th 5 oclock A.M start for Kansas City. 10 1/2 at hickmans mill get dinnger at Mr. Collins."

Q: anyone know who Mr. Collins is? Would the entire camp of soldiers be located on his farm? Sgt. Francis M. Gordon, served with Company D, 2nd Colorado Cavalry. His diary isn't what I expected to read ... going to church, having a lady friend to chat with, social gatherings. Having dinner at Collins' puzzles me. Doesn't sound like a soldier diary. Will dig out plat maps looking for Collins.
