Craig,

Besides Sergeant-Major Linville, two other members of the Fifth Missouri State Militia Cavalry were wounded in the skirmishes with Porter's men after the Battle of Kirksville. Both were privates and members of Company H, Captain John Pinger's company. The first was Joshua S. Boyd, who was shot in the right arm with a musket ball. According to his service card, he was wounded at Chariton Bottoms on August 11. He recovered. The second soldier was not as fortunate. His name was Gottlieb Schmidt. I don't have the specifics of his wound handy right now, but according to his service card, he was shot on August 10 at Chariton Bottoms, and he died on August 12 in LaClede.

I have noticed some confusion about the dates of the skirmishes following the Battle of Kirkville. Do you (or anyone else for that matter) have any definitive information on this topic? If so, please let me know what you have.

In the meantime, I hope you find this information to be helpful.

Larry
