B. Rice is mentioned in Letter 38 of the Watts Hays Letters written by Col. Upton Hays. Col Hays recruited many men from Jackson Co. into the 'Jackson Co. Brigade', the 2nd Mo Cav. and later the 12th Mo Cav. (Confederate). I think this is Benjamin Rice.

Elihu Coffee Rice is mentioned in Letters 32 and 85 and I wondered if he was a relative of Benjamin's. I have not been able to find Ben Rice in the censuses and don't have much information on him. Quite a few men of the 2nd/12th MO Cav served with Quantrill.
