I have several relatives (Wheatley's) that served in the Missouri State Guard, Co. E, 3rd Regt., 8th Div. and then later they are shown as serving in Co. A, 5th Mo. Regt. Infty.
Did the MSG fight in battles or were they assimilated in the CSA before they saw any action? All the Wheatley military records show they were serving with the 5th when they were involved in battles. As you can tell, I am a novice when it comes to our military history and I'm a bit confused. Will someone be kind enough to set-me-straight? I'll be ever so grateful!
