Thank you very much for the information. The service records indicate the Wheatley's fought at Carthage, Wilson's Creek, Lexington, Elk Horn, Corinth, and one stayed through the Seige of Vicksburg. Six of the nine Wheatley men have January 1, 1862 as their enlistment date in the 5th. Had I given more thought to the dates of the Battles, I would have realized they fought in the earlier battles with the MSG and those after January 1, 1862 would have been with the 5th. Nine Wheatley men served, and most never made it home. I want their story preserved for my grandchildren, and that is the purpose of my quest.
