I am not familiar with an article on this subject by Fellman either.

However, I remember running across an article on a similar subject some years ago. It's author was Don R. Bowen and the title of his article was "Guerrilla War in Western Missouri, 1862-1865: Historical Extensions of the Relative Deprivation Hypothesis." It appeared in Comparative Studies in Society and History 19 (January 1977): 30-51.
